The Tamil Scientist Mentoring Program

The Tamil Scientist Mentoring Program is run by Dr Kanmani Chandra Rajan, who has B Tech and M Tech degrees in Biotechnology from Anna University Chennai, India, a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and two postdocs - one from HKU and another from City University of Hong Kong.

Dr Chandra Rajan has a proven track record of prestigious fellowships such as Indian Academy of Sciences Summer Research Fellowship, Khorana Fellowship and Postdoctoral International Travelling Fellowship from Fisheries Society of the British Isles. She also was a visiting researcher at the University of Exeter, UK. She holds several travel and research presentation awards and has published her research in prestigious Q1 journals such as Global Change Biology, Proceedings B, Marine Environmental Research to name a few. She has participated in several international conferences around the world, presenting her research and obtaining presentation awards (Constance Boone Award from American Malacological Society for example). 

Starting from rural Tamil Nadu (Sivakasi), she has successfully built a global research career with no road map, but merit and scholarships. Now, she is sharing her road map to help students in need. With over a decade of experience working and collaborating with top global universities and institutions (Michigan State University, University College London to name a few),  Dr Chandra Rajan has started The Tamil Scientist Mentoring Program to help Indian students navigate PhD, postdoc and fellowship applications.

This program is not just for Tamils, but for all Indian students following @thetamilscientist and in need. This is an attempt to share expertise, unfiltered academic career advice and guide students/ researchers in need, so that they do not feel alone in their journey.
